Below is the contents of a letter from local MP Sajid Javid on progress on funding
sent to interested parties and local press.
“I thought I would write to you and update you on the plans to relocate and improve
Bromsgrove Railway Station.
I met last week with David Balme, the Transport Planning Officer at Worcestershire
County Council (WCC). He told me that officials from WCC and Centro, the West Midlands
Passenger Transport Executive and Authority, have agreed the £13.5 million funding
package. The Board of Centro and the full council of WCC still need to give final
approvals, but this is expected to come in February 2012.
The Department for Transport has been asked formally to agree to a "minimum service
contract". A final decision is expected on this shortly. I will be having a meeting
with Justine Greening, the Transport Secretary, in January 2012 to push things along.
WCC and Centro are expecting to submit a formal planning application to Bromsgrove
District Council in 2012.
I hope this information is useful, and 1 will keep you informed as I hear more. I
know that discussion of a new and improved train station in Bromsgrove has been going
on for some years, and we are now getting closer .”
