A History of Bromsgrove  and the Lickey Incline

The following history was written by Neville Billington, BRUG member and a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. It was first published in the house magazine  Harris Brush

Look out for Neville’s forthcoming book, “Fire and Steam”

Bromsgrove has a rich railway heritage. The town sits at the foot of the fearsome Lickey Incline, which has been a thorn in the side of the railway operators for over one hundred and fifty years.

The town no longer plays host to its most famous resident, Big Bertha, and the railway workshops have long disappeared, but it is hoped to relive this glorious past by incorporating  pictures and artefacts into the new station building.
