Alvechurch Station

Alvechurch station was opened in November 1859. Services south of Redditch ceased in 1962. Threatened with closure following the 1963 Beeching Report, it was reprieved.

In 1980 the branch became part of the recently inaugurated Cross-City Line from Lichfield via Birmingham New Street. The single track Cross City Line was electrified in 1993.

In 2014 Network Rail added a passing loop and also a second platform with a footbridge and lifts, so there is step free access to both platforms.

The car park is free of charge. However, it is unfinished. There are no marked bays and the surface is rough with numerous potholes that flood extensively in wet weather. Network Rail are using an innovative new solution that aims to reduce and prevent future flooding. This will be the first location in the country to benefit from this type of ground improvement work.

Footfall at March 2024 was 151,000. There is a link to Footfall graphs here
